HVDC Electrical Engineer - Scotland

Role Overview :

Reporting to the HVDC Service Operations manager you will be responsible for supporting existing and future HVDC service customers in Ireland and the UK.

Duties will include supporting all aspects of the LTSA's contracts of new and existing client sites. You will work closely with the local Service Team and our support partners to provide 1st & 2nd line support. This 1st & 2nd line support will require availability 24/7 to support our on-call engineers on site. Flexible working hours will also be required for significant maintenance tasks and on an impromptu basis as required. Contribute to improving Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance in the organisation to ensure an exemplary health and safety culture as well as a strong focus on the environment.

There will also be the chance to support the wider HVDC business as and when required by the needs of the business.

Main Accountabilities - Responsibilities, Tasks & Interactions:

  • Maintain a strong relationship with our valued customers.
  • 1st & 2nd line engineering and technical support for the HVDC Service team in the UK & Ireland.
  • Lead the service engineers on complex issues or major upgrades.
  • Attend Factory System Tests (FST) when requested.
  • Responsibility of Maintenance Management system and development of maintenance procedures to the local regulatory requirements.
  • Working together with the Operations manager in the Development & Competency Management planning of personnel including training and certification of support staff ensuring we have the proper, skilled, and competent staff in place.
  • Tender support for future links in the region.
  • Deliver exceptionally high availability to all customers.
  • Facilitate availability reporting & Cigre reporting.
  • Tender support for future links globally.
  • Safety rules adaption to client rules.

Requirements - Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Essential

  • Undergraduate Engineering degree with 5+ years' experience in HV power systems
  • HV (>125kV) substation experience.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with items of High Voltage equipment.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with LV and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in delivering technical reports and fault analysis.
  • Experience working with maintenance management systems.
  • An ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative.
  • Sound communication.
  • Team building skills.
  • MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Fluent written & spoken English.
  • A good working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations along with a relevant qualification. E.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CSCS
  • Driving license.

Beneficial / Advantageous

  • High Voltage DC experience.
  • At least 5+ years' experience in HV power systems or a heavy industrial environment.
  • Safety switching experience.
  • Power plant operational experience.
  • NEBOSH, National general certificate in occupational health and safety.
  • Impressed voltage awareness.
  • Previous electrical / mechanical authorisations. (Person, CP, AP, SAP)
  • Previous demonstratable experience providing safety from the system and safe systems of work.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with UPS systems, Battery Chargers, Air Handling Units, Pumps, PLCs & Generators.
  • Fire detection and protection system awareness / maintenance experience.
  • Maintenance / fault finding experience with SCADA / PLCs and control systems.
  • Offshore qualifications - HUETS and GWOs
