Senior Knitwear Product Developer

JOB PURPOSE Burberry is looking for a Senior Technical Product Developer, Knitwear, to mentor the entire PD Knitwear team. As the expert in this category, you will play a critical role in bringing design concepts to life through meticulous planning, execution, and quality assurance. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as mentor for the Knitwear team, advising on construction, fabric properties, and garment manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with designers from concept to final product, ensuring alignment with design vision.
  • Ensure Burberry's aesthetic and quality standards are maintained, with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Work with Engineering teams to test products against relevant standards and leverage their expertise.
  • Manage critical paths and lead times to ensure timely delivery to market.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors, manage vendor capabilities, and negotiate changes while protecting design integrity.
  • Calculate costs for prototypes and samples, ensuring products meet quality, cost, and margin targets.
  • Oversee the development process from concept to pre-production, resolving issues and adhering to timelines.
PERSONAL PROFILE
  • Proven product development experience in Knitwear, ideally at a luxury brand level.
  • Essential prior people management experience.
  • Strong experience working closely with designers.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of knitwear, fabric construction, pattern cutting, and raw materials.
  • Expertise in new techniques and factory operations, including machinery and pattern rooms.
  • Experienced in working with manufacturers, particularly in London, Europe, and Asia.
  • Commercially aware with strong business acumen, balancing creativity and cost management.
  • Proficient in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, fluent in Italian and English.
