Mechanical Supervisor – Barnsley
We are looking for a skilled Construction Supervisor (Mechanical) to work on a wastewater treatment site as part of Non-Infrastructure projects in the area. This is an initial 6-month contract with the potential for progression, as the project duration is expected to last 12-18 months. The successful candidate will oversee the mechanical installation and commissioning processes, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
• Oversee the safe and efficient installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical systems on the wastewater treatment site.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, project delivery systems, and industry standards.
• Supervise subcontractors to ensure mechanical works are completed on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
• Act as the primary point of contact during witness and quality hold points during inspections and client reviews.
• Obtain client acceptance for all mechanical installations and ensure satisfactory resolution of any snagging issues.
• Oversee mechanical acceptance/takeover demonstrations and prepare all necessary documentation to meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all relevant project documentation is completed and accepted by the client.
• Update and mark up all site mechanical and P&I drawings and assist in the creation of ‘As Built' documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractor demobilization, ensuring that surplus materials are removed and the site is left clean and tidy.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with mechanical equipment or systems in accordance with project contract obligations.
• Liaise with the client's site representatives to agree on modes of operation and assist in the creation of method statements for site activities.
• Work closely with vendors and suppliers to ensure mechanical systems are installed correctly before commissioning.
• Assist the Site Manager in maintaining a daily diary of project events.
• Report on project progress and highlight any delays to the Construction Manager.
• Ensure the materials and workmanship of the subcontractors are in line with approved drawings and specifications.
• Maintain strict adherence to Health and Safety regulations, COSHH, Environmental Plans, and other statutory requirements.
• Performance Measures
• Safe and timely installation and handover of all mechanical systems in line with project specifications.
• Proactive identification and resolution of any project issues impacting timelines, costs, quality, or safety.
• Accurate and timely completion of mechanical installation documentation.
• Thorough and precise marking up of project drawings.
• Effective implementation of Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH and environmental standards.
• Prompt resolution of any snags or defects with mechanical systems or equipment.
Qualifications/Skills
• Formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (HNC/HND minimum) – Essential
• SSSTS / SMSTS / CSCS – Essential
• IOSH Managing Safely in Construction or NEBOSH equivalent – Desirable
• First Aid at Work/Emergency First Aid – Essential
• Knowledge & Experience
• Proven site experience in the water/wastewater sector, with a focus on Non-Infrastructure projects, and supervisory experience – Essential
• Understanding of temporary works procedures, particularly related to pressure testing – Desirable
