Head of Grid Connections – Renewable Energy
Salary: £90,000 - £100,000
My client is a global leader in the renewable energy sector specialising in development, consturction, and management of wind, solar and BESS Projects across the globe. In this role you will manage and coordinate the grid connections process for new solar, BESS and co-located projects from preliminary site identification up to construction and then operation. Take a lead role in discussions and management of relationships with distribution and transmission network operators.
Outline of the responsibilities of this position:
Assisting in the selection of new sites, leading pre-application calls with the distribution and transmission network operators, and fostering working relationships.
Preparation of application documentation and reviewing received offers, providing technical advice to the development and management teams to ensure projects have technically and commercially sound connection agreements.
Maintaining a network of consultants to provide technical grid support services.
Work with project management and the business development teams to ensure all engineering factors are accounted for during the development process and determine and optimize grid related financial modelling inputs for ongoing projects and acquisition opportunities.
Support project tendering, reviewing documentation and providing input at the concept design, detailed design, and construction phases.
Develop ICP tender documentation to be issued for each connection type and assist in the assessment of ICP tender proposals.
Support the construction team by co-ordinating and witnessing testing activities, analysing plant performance, and working pro-actively with network while maintaining compliance .
Key Qualifications and Experience:
Experience of working on renewable generation projects, ideally solar and storage.
Strong technical knowledge of electricity grid planning/operations and the UK/IRL Grid Codes and relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations (e.g. G99) and able to communicate complex and technical information and concepts to non-technical third parties.
Knowledge of the electrical design of solar PV plants and grid connection methodologies.
Knowledge of HV electrical equipment, control systems, SCADA, protection, and metering.
Knowledge of the DNO/ICP process for embedded generator connections in the UK.
Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation with respect to electrical systems.
